How to Create Your First eBay Listing with SellBotAI
Turn item photos into an editable eBay draft, review the AI-generated details, calculate fees, and publish your first listing.
Once your eBay account is connected and your business policies are ready, SellBotAI can turn a set of item photos into a structured, editable eBay draft.
This guide walks through the complete first-listing workflow—from uploading your photos to reviewing the AI-generated details, checking eBay’s fees, and publishing the finished listing.
Before You Begin
Have these three things ready:
- Clear photos showing the item, labels, identifying details, and any condition issues
- The price you want to charge
- The dimensions and weight of the item after it is packed for shipping
SellBotAI can generate most of the listing data from your photos, but it cannot reliably know your selling price or the dimensions and weight of the package you intend to ship.
Step 1 Upload Photos for Your Listing
Open Create Listing from the SellBotAI navigation. The page begins with one upload area labeled Listing 1. Drag your JPEG photos into this area or select browse files to choose them from your device.
For the best result, include enough photos for the AI to understand exactly what you are selling:
- Show the front, back, sides, and important details.
- Photograph brand, model, size, material, and care labels.
- Include clear close-ups of barcodes, UPCs, or ISBNs.
- Show scratches, stains, wear, missing parts, or other condition issues.
- Include measurements or other information the AI would not otherwise know.
You will be able to change the final set and order of the eBay listing photos later.
Creating One Listing or a Batch
One upload area represents one eBay listing. If you are listing a single item, simply leave the page with one upload area.
If your plan includes batch listing, you will also see Add Listing controls. Use these to create a separate upload area for each additional item, then place each item’s photos in its corresponding area.
Each batch slot becomes its own SellBotAI draft and uses one listing generation. You do not need to activate a separate batch mode—adding more than one listing automatically makes it a batch.
Step 2 Choose Standard or Premium AI
Use the AI Model menu to choose how the listing will be generated.
Premium
Uses SellBotAI’s higher-capability model and consumes one Premium listing credit. It is particularly useful for uncommon, technical, collectible, or detail-heavy items.
Standard
Uses the standard model without consuming one of your Premium listing credits.
After choosing the model, select Generate. Keep the page open while SellBotAI analyzes the photos, determines a likely eBay category, retrieves the fields required for that category, and builds the draft.
For a single item, SellBotAI takes you directly to the generated listing editor. After a batch completes, you are taken to Drafts, where each generated listing can be reviewed individually.
Step 3 Check the Category Before Editing
This is the most important part of reviewing a new draft.
SellBotAI creates a title from your photos, requests category suggestions from eBay, and initially selects the top suggestion. The selected category appears near the top of Listing Basics.
Check the full category path and make sure it describes the item accurately. The category determines which conditions, product identifiers, and item-specific fields eBay expects.
Changing the category
Select Edit Category to open the category picker. From there, you can:
- Choose one of eBay’s suggested categories.
- Adjust the title used to request suggestions and select Refresh.
- Search or browse through eBay’s full category tree yourself.
After selecting the appropriate category, choose Confirm Selection. SellBotAI regenerates the category-dependent listing data using the original photos and the same Standard or Premium model used for the draft.
Your selling price, package information, and other seller-entered settings are preserved, but you should treat the AI-generated portion of the listing as newly generated.
For a more detailed walkthrough of eBay suggestions, category browsing, fallback categories, and regeneration, see our Category Selection Guide.
Step 4 Prepare the Final eBay Photo Set
The eBay Listing Images section contains the photos that will be sent to eBay if you publish the listing.
You can add, remove, or reorder these photos without changing the original photo set SellBotAI used for its analysis.
When Different Photo Sets Are Useful
You may have given the AI supporting material that should not appear in the public listing, such as:
- A handwritten note containing measurements
- A screenshot of technical specifications
- A close-up included only so the AI could read a label
- A temporary reference photo showing package dimensions
After generation, remove any internal reference images you do not want buyers to see and arrange the remaining photos in the order you want them displayed on eBay.
SellBotAI retains the original AI source photos separately, so category regeneration can still use the original evidence even if your final eBay photo set is different.
Step 5 Review the Generated Information
SellBotAI fills in the listing fields it can determine from your photos, the selected category, and any Listing Hint you supplied. Review each section carefully before publishing.
What to Review
Listing Basics
Check the title for accuracy and useful search terms. You can also add an optional SKU or make the listing private. The title cannot exceed eBay’s 80-character limit.
Item Condition
Confirm that the selected condition matches the item. Make sure every visible flaw or sign of wear is represented accurately. Certain collectible categories may display additional grading or certification fields.
Product Identifiers
Depending on the category, eBay may request a UPC, EAN, or ISBN. SellBotAI attempts to read these from your photos when they are clearly visible. Always compare the generated number with the item itself.
Item Specifics
Review fields such as brand, model, size, color, material, type, or compatible product. Fields marked with an asterisk are required by eBay.
Description
Confirm that the description accurately explains what is included, the item’s condition, important measurements or specifications, known flaws, and any details that could affect a buying decision.
For additional recommendations on titles, item specifics, descriptions, photos, and pricing, see eBay’s guide to creating a strong listing.
Step 6 Add Selling and Shipping Information
The two main pieces of information SellBotAI normally cannot determine are your price and the details of the package you will ship.
If you are unsure what to charge or which listing format to use, our Pricing Strategies Guide explains how to research comparable items and choose a starting price.
Format and Price
Choose either a fixed-price listing or an auction.
For a fixed-price listing:
- Enter the selling price.
- Confirm the quantity, which begins at 1.
- Enable Best Offer if desired.
- Optionally enter minimum-offer and automatic-accept amounts.
For an auction:
- Choose the auction duration.
- Enter the auction starting price.
- Configure Buy It Now or Best Offer options if desired.
You can also schedule the listing to begin at a later date and time.
Business Policies and Package Details
Your default Payment, Shipping, and Return policies should already be selected from your SellBotAI preferences. Review them, especially if this item needs a different policy than you normally use.
Enter the package’s:
- Length
- Width
- Height
- Weight in pounds and ounces
Measure the finished shipping package—not only the unpacked item. Include the box, padding, and other packing material so eBay can calculate shipping from realistic information.
Step 7 Save the Draft or Calculate eBay Fees
The generated listing is already stored on your SellBotAI Drafts page, and changes made in the editor are saved automatically. You can also select Save as Draft when you want explicit confirmation before leaving the page.
When the listing is complete, select Calculate Fees. SellBotAI sends the listing details to eBay for validation without creating a live listing.
What Calculate Fees Does
- Checks whether eBay can accept the listing
- Identifies missing or invalid information
- Returns the applicable listing-fee estimate
Step 8 Publish the Listing
Review the final photos, category, generated content, price, policies, and package information. When everything is correct, select Publish Item.
SellBotAI sends the listing directly to your connected eBay account. If you selected a future start time, eBay schedules it accordingly.
What Happens to the Draft?
- Leave Delete draft after publishing unchecked to keep the draft in SellBotAI with a Listed status.
- Check it to delete the SellBotAI draft after eBay successfully creates the listing.
This setting affects only the SellBotAI draft. It does not delete the live eBay listing. If eBay rejects the publication attempt, SellBotAI keeps the draft so you can correct the problem and try again.

Before selecting Publish Item, confirm:

- The title, condition, identifiers, item specifics, and description are accurate.
- The price and quantity are correct.
- The selected business policies fit the item.
- The packed dimensions and weight are entered.
- The fee check completed without unresolved errors.
